Rules for the transportation of lithium batteries

We draw the attention of passengers to the requirements and rules for the transportation of lithium batteries, gadgets and batteries of means of transportation and wheelchairs

Lithium-ion batteries with a specific power of up to 100 Wh (Lithium metal batteries with a lithium content of no more than 2 g)

Examples:
— mobile phones;
— video cameras;
— watches;
— MP3 players;
— laptops;
— portable medical devices;
— external chargers (Power bank).

In carry-on baggage:
— permitted inside the equipment;
— spare batteries must be separately protected so as to prevent short circuits (e.g. by placing them in their original packaging, or by wrapping insulating tape around the exposed terminals, or by placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective package)

In checked baggage:
— must be located inside the equipment;
— measures must be taken to prevent their spontaneous activation;
— carrying spare batteries (not inserted into the equipment) is prohibited.

Lithium-ion batteries with a specific power of up to 100-160 Wh (Lithium-metal batteries with a lithium content of no more than 2-8 g)

Examples:
— laptops with increased resource;
— professional audio and video equipment;
— portable medical devices;
— external chargers (Power bank).

In carry-on baggage:
— airline permission required;
— permitted inside equipment;
— measures must be taken to prevent their inadvertent detonation;
— spare batteries must be separately protected so as to prevent short circuiting (e.g. by placing them in their original packaging, or by wrapping insulating tape over exposed terminals, or by placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective package);
— no more than two spare lithium-metal batteries may be carried by one passenger.

In checked baggage:
— airline permission is required;
— must be located inside the equipment;
— measures must be taken to prevent their spontaneous activation;
— the carriage of spare batteries (not inserted into the equipment) is prohibited.

Lithium-ion batteries with a specific power of more than 160 Wh

Examples:
— industrial equipment included in some electric and hybrid vehicles;
— mobile devices and mopeds.

Prohibited from carriage in baggage or carry-on baggage
Must be presented for carriage as "dangerous goods" in accordance with the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (DOC 9284 AN\905).

Transporting extra chairs with batteries with a capacitate of sea thang 160 Vh

Examples:
— unicycles;
— segways;
— hoverboards;
— gyro scooters;
— electric scooters.

Based on IATA recommendations, air transportation of the specified vehicles on ALROSA Airlines JSC flights is possible as checked baggage, provided that there is no lithium battery in the vehicle.
A lithium battery removed from the vehicle is allowed for transportation only in hand luggage, provided that the battery power does not exceed the established norm - 160 Wh.
A small-sized vehicle with a built-in (non-removable) lithium battery may be transported as "dangerous cargo" through the airport cargo terminal.

Transporting wheelchairs with batteries with a capacity of more than 160 Wh

Wheelchairs or similar mobility aids, powered by lithium-ion batteries with a specific power of more than 160 Wh, used by passengers with reduced mobility due to a special health condition, age or temporary conditions (e.g., a broken leg).

Conditions for authorizing special transportation of a mobility aid/wheelchair:
1. Airline permission is required;
2. Mobility aids must be transported in such a way that they are protected from damage caused by the movement of baggage, mail, cargo;
3. The aircraft commander must be informed of the location of lithium-ion batteries;
4. If the battery is non-removable, it can be carried as checked baggage provided that:
— the battery terminals are protected from short circuits (e.g. by means of a fence in the battery box);
— the battery is securely fastened in the mobility aid;
— the electrical circuits must be isolated.
5. If the mobility aid/wheelchair is designed so that it is possible for the user to remove the battery, then:
— the battery must be removed;
— batteries must be carried in the passenger compartment;
— batteries must be protected from short circuits by insulating the terminal (by taping);
— removed batteries must be protected from damage (placed in protective packaging);
— the battery capacity must not exceed 300 Wh;
— only one spare battery with a capacity of not more than 300 Wh, or two spare batteries, each of which does not exceed a capacity of 160 Wh, may be carried.

ATTENTION:

* Lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries without manufacturer's markings, without a clear indication of the energy capacity in watt-hours or lithium content in grams, as well as those whose energy capacity cannot be calculated (1Wh = 1V * 1Ah), are not allowed for carriage.

* The airline may refuse to transport removable batteries if the passenger does not provide the appropriate (factory) packaging.

* Use of stand-alone chargers is prohibited during the entire flight

* Electronic cigarettes containing lithium batteries are permitted in carry-on baggage only, use on board the aircraft is prohibited.
